At Utility Week Live 2017 ICEE Managed Services will be highlighting the company’s latest Hydrogen Fuel Cell Generator, the 56Kw/h model from a range of this type of low-power, low-carbon portable electricity generator made by the company for off-grid and back-up energy requirements.
Additionally, the company will be promoting its comprehensive range of site services associated with an important part of its business that makes, installs and maintains a range of standard and bespoke equipment enclosures for the utilities industry.
Supporting ‘green’ principles and based on an advanced hydrogen fuel cell, the off-grid generator to be highlighted by ICEE is economic to operate and runs reliably for long periods without maintenance. The largest model will deliver up to 175 watts DC.
Exploiting the low maintenance feature of hydrogen fuel cell technology, ICEE has designed its portable generator specifically for locations ranging from remote rural and offshore sites to dense urban streets. In the latter case, the product’s low emission – only water vapour – and almost silent operation help significantly minimise airborne pollution and noise.
Various types of device may be quickly and securely mounted on the generator cabinet or on an optional telescopic mast attached to the product’s casing. The mast offers a sturdy and stable means to hold aloft a variety of devices including emergency and permanent lighting, illuminated roadside signage, CCTV surveillance cameras, environmental monitoring, process control and other equipment.
Versions of the telescopic mast, made by Clark Masts, will lift a piece of equipment, weighing up to 120kg (headload), up to six to eight metres from ground level. Mast operation may be either manual or power-assisted, through a reliable pneumatic pump.
Portable and rapidly deployable, ICEE’s hydrogen fuel cell generators will operate consistently day and night in any weather. On running costs, Shane Thomas, key account manager, ICEE Managed Services, says: “Compared to the operating costs of most conventional petrol or diesel generators, the hydrogen fuel cell offers a big competitive advantage. For example, up to seventy-five per cent savings for loads up to 150 watts.
“Depending on the equipment being powered, connecting several gas bottles housed within a generator cabinet means replenishing the fuel supply may only be required once a year, greatly reducing the number and thus total expense of maintenance visits.”
This is especially important, he says, when sites may be difficult or costly to access, such as isolated coastal or highland roadways and roadworks.
“In towns, compared to power generators relying on internal combustion engines, the ICEE Hydrogen Fuel Cell Generator is almost noiseless and non-polluting.”
Power may be boosted and time between maintenance visits extended if ICEE attaches to the generator cabinet or telescopic mast optional photovoltaic (PV) panels, a wind turbine, or within the cabinet, a battery. The company will advise upon and supply any one or more of these options, depending on what a customer requires.
