Ben has undertaken senior leadership roles in both regulated and non‐regulated businesses having spent his early career in the energy sector with British Gas, Transco and National Grid.

He ran the energy Buying Solutions team for the Office of Government Commerce and held a number of senior operational roles with private companies.

Ben has first‐hand experience of a new entrant having been Chief Operating Officer for First Utility, an entrepreneurial on‐line challenger brand in the energy supply market.

Daniel Walker-Nolan

Principal Policy Manager - Energy & Consumer, Citizens Advice Bureau

Dan has worked in public affairs and policy roles around the energy sector for nearly a decade. He currently leads the work of Citizens Advice on smart metering, and sits on the Smart Meter Delivery Group. He also heads a research programme aimed at ensuring behavioural insights are embedded within consumer protections. In past roles he campaigned extensively for improvements to policy on energy efficiency, distributed energy and building regulations, achieving significant change in Westminster, Holyrood and Brussels.

Basil Scarsella

Chief Executive Officer, UK Power Networks

Basil Scarsella is the Chief Executive Officer of UK Power Networks, owned by the Cheung Kong Group, which is the largest Distribution Network Operator in the UK, distributing electricity to over eight million homes and businesses across London, the South East and East of England. It has some 6,000 employees in its regulated and non-regulated areas. UK Power Networks has been ranked in the top 25 Best Big Companies to Work for 2015 and 2016 in the Sunday Times annual list and awarded Utility of the Year in the UK in 2012 and 2015.

Piers Clark

Founder and Chairman, Isle Group

Piers is Chairman of the Isle Group.  Isle is a technical, specialist water consultancy with offices in the UK, the Netherlands, the USA, Australia, Singapore and Abu Dhabi. Piers was previously the Managing Director for the private equity fund Global Water Development Partners (GWDP), a Blackstone portfolio company. From 2010-14 he was the Commercial Director at Thames Water, the largest of the UK water companies. Piers was responsible for all of Thames Water’s non-regulated business activities. Piers also served as Interim Asset Management Director for Thames Water. Prior to joining Thames Water, Piers was Managing Director of Mouchel’s Regulated Industries leading a team of 3,000 staff providing engineering consultancy and operational maintenance services in the water, energy, environment and rail sectors.  He is a Board director for the IFC-backed Haiti-based water kiosk business Dlo Haiti, and is an Advisor to the Canadian water private equity fund XPV. He has a PhD in Civil Engineering

Jonathan Kini

Chief Executive, Drax Retail

As CEO of Drax Retail, Jonathan oversees business operations and champions Drax’s retail strategy across Haven Power and Opus Energy. He is responsible for pursuing increased business growth through small-to-medium enterprise (SME) sectors, and for sustaining and growing Drax Retail’s industrial and commercial (I&C) customer base. The Retail strategic focus is a more customer-centric approach to energy sustainability, to inspire change in energy use and help customers to use less. Under Jonathan’s leadership, both Haven Power and Opus Energy will have the unique ability to offer reliable, renewable energy generated using biomass technology. The long term ambition is that 100% of Drax’s Retail customers are on 100% renewable.
