Richard is a Chartered Civil Engineer and a wastewater infrastructure specialist with over 40 years experience. With Prof Kirill Horoshenkov he is joint inventor of the SewerBatt system that uses sound to measure the serviceability of sewers. After many years as a consulting engineer, in 2013 he became Director of Technology of university spin-out company Acoustic Sensing Technology, set up to commercialise the invention. SewerBatt is now in use by water, highways and rail utilities in the UK and abroad. Richard has contributed to many UKWIR and EPSRC research projects.
