In August 2014, Concrete Canvas (CC) was used to protect a clay and top soil flood defence berm on an estuary bank in Crindau, Newport in South Wales. Two sections of the slope were found to be at risk of slip and tidal erosion. Vegetation mats had been installed but quickly degraded. Natural Resources Wales (NRW) specified CC as a permanent solution to protect the slope from slip and increase the operational life of the flood defence.
