Shirley Robertson

Shirley Robertson is Head of Strategic Planning and Sustainability at SSEN Distribution, where she leads strategic asset management, sustainability, climate resilience and regulatory business planning across the electricity network. An engineer by training and profession, she has more than 25 years' experience in engineering, asset management and infrastructure delivery across electricity, water and telecommunications sectors. She combines deep technical expertise with strategic leadership to deliver resilient, reliable and sustainable infrastructure solutions.

Shirley leads the development of long-term network strategies, major regulatory submissions and investment plans, including RIIO business plans, Asset Management Strategies, Environmental Action Plans and Climate Resilience Strategies. As a senior technical authority, she oversees asset policy, governance and investment frameworks that support safe and reliable network performance while delivering value for customers and communities. She has played a leading role in embedding sustainability, climate resilience and science-based carbon reduction targets into network decision-making and investment planning.

Holding a Master's degree in International Energy Law and Policy, Shirley works closely with regulators, industry partners and stakeholders to support the transition to a resilient, low-carbon energy system. She is passionate about developing future engineering leaders and applying practical engineering solutions that create lasting value for customers, society and the environment.
