Guidehouse to Support UK Power Networks with Heatropolis Project | Guidehouse

LONDON, UK — May 12, 2025 — Guidehouse, a global advisory, technology, and managed services firm serving the commercial and public sectors, was invited by UK Power Networks (UKPN), a large electricity distribution network operator in Great Britain, as a key vendor for Heatropolis, a groundbreaking £10 million multi-year energy innovation pilot project.

Guidehouse will play a pivotal role in overall programme management, trials design, consumer engagement, design of customer digital tools, trials evaluation, and change management. In addition, Guidehouse will support key initiatives, including the design of novel commercial arrangements and whole systems business cases to unlock flexibility from low carbon heat networks, knowledge dissemination, and stakeholder engagement.

“Guidehouse is honoured to work with UK Power Networks, Metropolitan, and Passiv UK on this pioneering project,” said Mark Livingstone, Partner at Guidehouse. “Our team brings deep expertise in energy transition, innovation, and large-scale programme management, and we are excited to contribute to this vital initiative. This pilot project has the potential to set new standards for decarbonisation and energy efficiency across the UK."

Heatropolis, a first-of-its-kind pilot project, aims to transform the way energy is used and distributed, with a particular focus on reducing carbon emissions and integrating sustainable energy solutions into urban heat networks. As the UK's largest electricity distribution network operator, UKPN is spearheading this effort to create a more sustainable and resilient energy future.

Guidehouse was chosen for its proven expertise in managing complex transformation initiatives and delivering innovative solutions in the energy sector. As part of the collaboration, Guidehouse will also contribute to the design and strategic development of the Heatropolis programme, ensuring that its objectives align with the evolving needs of UK Power Networks' customers and the wider energy landscape.

“This project marks an important step toward achieving the UK’s net-zero goals, demonstrating how innovation can accelerate the transition to a more sustainable energy system,” said Luca Grella, Head of Innovation at UKPN. “With Guidehouse’s proven expertise in supporting the successful delivery of complex innovation projects, Heatropolis brings us closer to a future where electricity and heat networks work seamlessly together to decarbonise our communities.”

The Heatropolis project is funded through the Strategic Innovation Fund, an Office of Gas and Electricity Markets programme managed in partnership with Innovate UK.
