National Underground Asset Register (NUAR)

Stand: C2

The National Underground Asset Register (NUAR) is a government digital service, operated by Ordnance Survey that provides instant access to a secure and standardised map of the underground pipes and cables in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

It is improving the efficiency and safety of the way we install, maintain, operate, and repair our buried infrastructure. It achieves this through the instant access to data, reducing the number of organisations to be contacted and speeding up the average six days to get information. Further efficiencies come from the standardised view of underground asset data, which simplifies the previously complex process of aligning varied formats and scales. Alongside providing excavators with access to more data it supports the safe dig process to improve their safety.

Data is currently available from over 360 asset owners, including most of the major energy and water providers, several major telecommunications companies, transport organisations, and local authorities. Currently over 3.2 million kms of pipes and cables are mapped, which covers 80% of the known underground assets.

If you are an asset owner or an authorised contractor working directly for an asset owner, operating in England, Wales or Northern Ireland and have not yet signed up to NUAR, come and meet the team, to find out more about NUAR, ask any questions and start your onboarding journey.
