Dr Natalie Lamb, Spring

As the Innovation Delivery Manager at Spring, I play a pivotal role in accelerating innovation and fostering a culture of cross sector knowledge sharing within the water industry. A core part of my work is managing the Spring Accelerator - a unique, global call for innovation focused on specific problem statements, which I run in collaboration with all the water companies in the UK and Ireland. I oversee the process end-to-end, from defining challenge areas to facilitating the implementation of successful innovation. Successful outcomes from the Accelerator can range from collaborative trials among multiple water companies to one-on-one mentoring relationships, allowing for versatile and tailored innovation pathways. In addition to my work with the Spring Accelerator, I support collaborative efforts among water companies applying for OFWAT Innovation Funds.

I really love working on innovation and research in the water industry. I love the talking to people, the presenting, the technical knowledge, the travelling, the site visits but most of all I find trying to make water more sustainable the most rewarding bit.

I also have a keen interest in communicating my ideas and thoughts to others in a way that anyone can understand- not just scientists. I think, what is the point of being an expert in an area if you can never talk to others about what it is you do? I love being Chair of the International Water Association (IWA) UK Young Water Professionals (YWP), National Young Professionals Network (YPN) Chair of the Institute of Water and being on the Global IWA Committee as YWP Chapter Coordinator, as well as being a STEM Ambassador, to talk to people about my work, get people valuing water more and to start the conversation about science in general.
